Mathilda-Jolie Brown

1st year Health Sciences

In high school, I helped lead Project Zen, a mental health initiative where we created Instagram and TikTok content to support teens struggling with stress. I also helped plan small fundraisers and posted tips, aiming to create a safe, relatable space online. Separately, I started an Instagram page to raise awareness about scoliosis after seeing my younger cousin get bullied for her condition. That project led to family and friends raising money and joining an Ottawa charity walk event. Both experiences showed me how media and events can create real change. I’d love to bring that energy to For The Children.

3rd Year Psychology

During the 2024–2025 academic year, I served as co-VP Media for FTC. Over the course of a few months, I quickly gained experience creating promotional posts for FTC’s events using softwares such as Canva, and I learned the importance of pushing my creativity to publicize FTC as much as possible.

VP EVENTS (2)

Lia Adamu

1st year Health Sciences

Through my involvement with Ottawa Tegaru Youth, I’ve helped plan a variety of events like a fashion show fundraiser, a marathon fundraising event, BBQ fundraisers, and even a weekly homework club. I was involved in all parts of the planning process—helping organize supplies, promoting the events, setting up, and making sure everything ran smoothly. These experiences taught me how to manage time, stay organized, and work well with a team. I really enjoy creating events that bring people together for a good cause, and I’d love to bring that same energy and creativity to the VP Events role. Being part of For The Children as an exec is especially important to me because helping Kenyan youth is a cause I genuinely care about. Through my involvement with Ottawa Tegaru Youth, I’ve worked to support children affected by the conflict in Tigray, and that experience has shown me how meaningful it is to stand up for youth who are facing difficult circumstances. I’m passionate about continuing that kind of work as an exec.

With my experience as a general member for FTC this school year and a part of the external committee, I had the opportunity to reach out to local organizations in Ottawa to secure some funding for the club. In my current position, I am tasked with analyzing my organization's finances through excel. In my previous position as a supervisor and Salvation Army Thrift Store, I was tasked with managing the physical cash for the store and entering it into the databases.

I’m reapplying for my position as VP External for the club, and during my time in this role, I’ve had the chance to build some great relationships with local businesses and managers. Over the past year, I’ve learned what strategies really work when it comes to building partnerships and what doesn’t. I’ve had hands-on experience in reaching out and managing these relationships for future events, which has taught me a lot about communication in diverse settings.

VP Logistics (1)

Lia Adamu

1st year Health Sciences

I’ve been apart of a club called Ottawa Tegaru Youth for 6 years, where we organize fundraisers to support families and kids affected by the genocide in the Tigray region of Ethiopia. Through this club, I’ve had a lot of hands-on experience with logistics—gathering everything we need for events like food, drinks, decorations, and more. I’ve helped plan and set up multiple fundraisers, so I’ve learned how to stay organized, work within a budget, and make sure everything runs smoothly. It’s also taught me how important it is to communicate well with others and be ready to adapt when things don’t go exactly as planned. Through helping plan fundraisers and gathering supplies, I’ve learned how important it is to stay organized, manage time well, and think ahead. I’ve also learned how to work within a budget and still make events successful, even with limited resources. In addition to that, I was a member of student council during my last two years of high school. During that time, I was involved in planning school events and often had to purchase supplies and materials—whether it was for school dances, spirit weeks, or other activities. It taught me how to be resourceful, coordinate with others, and make sure everything was ready on time. I also spent three years as an Army Cadet, which gave me valuable leadership experience and helped me build strong communication and teamwork skills. Being a cdet taught me how to work with people from different backgrounds, stay organized, and take initiative. These are all qualities that I believe will help me lead the recruitment committee with confidence and create a welcoming, structured environment for new members.
